To boost recall… sing the alphabet

Feel like words are often “at the tip of your tongue”? Dulled neural pathways can block the brain from pulling words out of “storage.” The fix: Sing the alphabet song, thinking about each letter as you say it. Research in the Journal of Experimental Psychology suggests hearing the first letter of the word you’re looking for cues your brain to release it at last.

To sharpen focus… spread your ‘wings’ 

If your mind is flitting from one thing to the next, try this: Place a thumb over each hip bone then bring your elbows back, puffing your chest like a butterfly spreading its wings, before resting your hands on your haunches. This shifts your body into an “alert” posture that San Francisco State University research suggests sharpens focus in as little as 15 seconds.

To think more creatively… nibble as you scribble
