The BEST keto yet!
Woman's World|September 12, 2022
Not long ago, the FDA approved a drug called semaglutide, which experts say is as effective as weight-loss surgery. While it’s not for everyone, it can be a lifesaving option for some. “And it can be an inspiration for anyone hoping to drop excess pounds,” reveals Columbia University– trained nutrition expert Fred Pescatore, M.D. Turns out, “it’s pretty easy to mimic the benefits of this drug without all the risks that come with medication or a medical procedure.” Dr. Pescatore already has patients using the approach, a powerful new twist on the popular keto diet. “The feedback I get is amazing,” he says. “It always works. It works for every single person who does it.” As folks transform their health, many are able to shed as much as or more than a typical gastric-bypass patient—dropping up to 60 pounds in one month!
The BEST keto yet!

So what exactly does semaglutide do inside us? Originally approved as a diabetes drug, it slims primarily “by increasing levels of a hormone called GLP-1, which improves blood-sugar control and insulin function as it signals our brain that we’re full,” Dr. Pescatore explains. The more GLP-1 we make, the less we want to eat. On top of that, chronically high blood sugar comes down, shifting our body chemistry in favor of effortless weight loss. It’s why studies show dieters who boost GLP-1 melt about 5.5 times more flab than those who don’t.

Now, you might wonder why we don’t all just take semaglutide. Well, it’s pricey, may cause GI distress and gallstones “and has to be injected,” notes the doc. If you don’t mind needles, the drug (brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) is an option to discuss with your healthcare provider. Of course, you may find natural GLP-1 boosters are all you need…

Walk off 100 + pounds

Not long ago, Gina Buck got on a scale and saw that her weight had crept to 287 pounds. She was shocked. And then she started to get really worried about her health. \"l said, 'I'm not getting any closer to 300 pounds,\"' recalls the South Carolina retiree, 65, who has five beautiful granddaughters she wants to see grow up. \"So l went to the doctor for diet pills.\" Her doctor, a no-nonsense woman who'd overcome weight issues herself, agreed to three months of appetite suppressants as a jump-start. But she also \"prescribed\" long-term strategies, including taking 10,000 steps a day and intermittent fasting. \"It all made sense,\" Gina recalls. But after a lifetime of yo-yo dieting, she was skeptical she could actually make changes and stick with them. \"Even so, l figured l had to try.\" So she found free phone apps to count her steps and help get her eating on track. What Gina didn't realize: At that very moment, scientists were finishing experiments on the same strategies she was about to try. And they would ultimately find that intermittent fasting has the power to help walkers like Gina triple their fat loss. Wow!
