Rath, or the Chariot, is a mythical vehicle which was symbolically made a political one, as the 'Ramrath Yatra' set rolling in the beginning of the nineties, in India. The chariot wheel somehow became a metaphor for the ever increasing presence of the Hindutva ideologies, the culmination of which we are witnessing in contemporary times. From popular books on Hindu mythical characters to films like the recent Adipurush, the wheel of Hindutva is rolling and churning propaganda.The Desh 2July 2023 issue observes these events through three essays written by Tilottama Mazumder, Sayandeb Chowdhury and Tajuddin Ahmed. A travelogue by Asim Pal on the ancient mysterious stone engravings in Konkan and an essay by Abhijit Chattopadhyay on the symbols in Indian temple and sculptural art are also included in the issue. Regular sections like the serialized novel Shunya Pather Mallika by Smaranjit Chakrabarty, Mantabya, Granthalok, Kabita, Galpo, Shilpo Sanskriti, Chithipatra, Seshkatha etc are there as usual.
