Seasoned campaigner Zagreb claims the CIC2*, while Morelands Casanova heads the CIC* under Selena Milnes
ALEXANDER BRAGG and his seasoned campaigner Zagreb made light work of Bicton’s influential cross-country course and undulating terrain to head the 49-strong Rathbones CIC2*.
In doing so, the competitor heading for the Blenheim Event Rider Masters (ERM) thwarted Emily King’s hopes of a triple. Already a winner of the under-21 open intermediate (OI) and a novice section, the Sidmouth rider finished second aboard Walitze F Vejgard (“Zara”).
“I feel a little sad for Emily, but I won’t be sad for long,” joked Alex, as he collected his rosettes (he was also sixth on Red path Ransom) alongside Zagreb’s owner, Sally Ellicott. “I started out on the cross-country knowing that I had to open him up to secure a win and he was truly professional.”
Alex put his successful negotiation of the CIC2* “bogey”, the brush corner at 11, down to committed riding.
“A lot of people coming off the turn to it were just too careful,” he said.
