Ever since the words ‘Let there be light’ were uttered, civilisations have tried different methods to harness this energy for its comfort. Illumination is intrinsic to human life, more so in the modern world. From the humble Edison bulb to the energy-saving LED solutions, it has been a transformative market that never ceases to amaze us. With today’s internet-savvy world, lighting solutions are transitioning into a new phase of innovation and discovery.
“We are increasingly seeing the introduction of new and innovative products that provide multiple benefits such as lights with in-built Bluetooth speakers and security cameras, smart lights that are energy-efficient, etc,” shares Gurumukh Uttamchandani, executive director, Syska Group. Use of Smart LEDs controlled through smartphones or tablets using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth technology are becoming more common now. “These are new innovations that have taken place in the lighting space and are transforming the lives of consumers.”
There’s more to modern light fixtures than mere illumination. Lights, today, not only help in completing tasks effectively – but also affect the emotional state of mind, points out Ranbir Mehra, director, Jaquar Lighting. “They greatly help in personalisation of homes, which has always been a challenge when it comes to lighting and home décor.”
Fuelled by the growing popularity of smart cities, intelligent lighting has become one of the key interest areas of industry players who are constantly coming up with newer designs and infrastructure for smart homes. “According to a market study report, the smart lighting market is poised to gain a high growth, giving players in India an opportunity to tap the smart-city initiative and a chance to transform the domestic lighting sector to embrace all aspects of residential IoT,” adds Mehra.
