Soldering on bikes should be avoided whenever possible. However, for certain areas of a motorcycle, soldering is the only answer, the most notable of which is the handlebar switches.
Restoring switches is time consuming, but rewarding. There seems to be a lot of options for soldering these days. Back in my day a bog standard electric soldering iron was pretty much all that was on offer. For bigger jobs there was always the blow torch and gas iron. Nowadays there are irons powered by butane gas, lithium ion batteries and even a baby one that plugs into a USB port. Laser Tools gave me a handful of irons and accessories to test.
