The last few months were sent to test us! Our Project M8 should have been on the dyno and sent away all smooth and happy but things conspired against that happening. Nothing major just little hiccups and diversions that diverted attention away from what Mick really wanted to achieve with his Super Glide recreation. He planned to have more work completed by this point but sometimes life happens. Other bikes had to be tested and magazines don’t put themselves together!
THE DUST-CATCHER IN THE SHED!
Alongside Project M8 is a steadily growing pile of boxes. Parts are arriving but not always as quickly as we’d like. While we were waiting for parts to land, Project M8 sat and gathered dust. With a stream of test bikes, it was easy for it to become the other bike in the shed. It needed tuning but opportunities to get it rolling on a dyno were limited, and being distracted didn’t help.
It was ridden a couple of times but really needed to have the tuning finished to make it a completely smooth and enjoyable bike to ride.
THE ROLLING RULER
A dyno is nothing more than a fancy ruler. That’s all. Granted that it’s an expensive piece of engineering but fundamentally all it does is measure something and display the results on a screen. The operator needs to be able to interpret the results and make changes to the ECU via an interface. I chose a Power Vision to fulfill that function and bought one locally.
The trick … actually there are two tricks: the first is tofind time on a dyno; and the second is to find an operator who is fluent in PV, H-D and interpreting the results.
