Even though there hasn't been an official announcement that such a change is being considered, the entire nation is discussing various aspects related to this. People started taking sides with some saying 'India' is better while others preferring the latter. Politicians also have mixed opinions upon this change. While some favoring the ruling party started stating that the word 'Bharať' is a Sanskrit word and 'India' was coined by Britishers etc. while the opposing parties are stating that this change is a part of propaganda by the ruling party. Why is the change of name being considered after 76 years of Independence? Is it led by patriotic spirit or political agendas? Let's see some perspectives.
Our Constitution is called 'Constitution of India' in English and ‘Bharat ka Samvidhan’ in Hindi. In English version, the first article states, ‘India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States' while the Hindi version states, 'Bharat, arthaath India ...' which translates to ‘Bharat, that is India'. What is the actual name, then? The people who have led the freedom movement, the people who have contributed to the writing of the lengthiest Constitution in the world have used the names, ‘India' and ‘Bharať' interchangeably. Whenever an English scripture is used, the word 'India' was mentioned where as when Devnagari script was used, the word 'Bharať’ was mentioned. This trend is not new and have been used by various other nations as well like 'China' is called 'Zhonguong' in Chinese and 'Japan' is called 'Nippon' etc. It is because of the fact that the name of the nation in their own language may not be actually pronounced the same in English and so, the dualnaming has come into practice.
