She shot to fame as one third of the fabulous garage girl band Mis-Teeq – alongside Alesha Dixon and Su-Elise Nash – so I couldn’t wait to get Sabrina on the phone to take a trip down memory lane and find out what she’s been up to.
Just like the rest of us, Sabrina, 41, has spent a large part of 2020 in lockdown – and she has mixed feelings about her time stuck indoors.
“It was obviously the weirdest time for everybody, because everything was completely locked down. For me, it was a weird time, but wonderful at times also, because it inspired me to write my music,” says the singer, who got us all dancing with hits like One Night Stand and Scandalous in the early noughties.
Now that life is slowly getting back to normal, Sabrina is getting ready to release her new solo album – and I for one just can’t wait to hear her new music.
Here, Sabrina talks about her lifelong passion for writing music, experiencing racism in the industry and which reality shows she would love to do…
Hi Sabrina! So your time in lockdown allowed you to get your creative juices flowing?
I think it did help me get a bit more creative, because we’ve had so much time on our hands. We had to try and find something for our minds to do to keep us occupied!
We did, babe! Has writing music always been a massive passion for you?
It’s always been so big for me – I’ve been writing music from the time I was in primary school until now. It’s always been my way to speak and express myself.
What can we expect from your new album?
