Their love/hate bromance has been the source of endless laughs and quips on the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel over the past decade. But David Walliams puts jokes aside and can’t hide his sincere happiness when discussing Simon Cowell’s impending wedding.
“I’m really so excited for Simon and Lauren,” he reveals to us. “I’m very close to both of them. I’ve loved Lauren from the moment I first met her. She and I have our own friendship outside of just being with Simon – we catch up among ourselves. She was so proud when she came to BGT and showed us her engagement ring. It’s a wonderful thing Simon and Lauren have.”
David, 50, adds that the wedding – thought to be taking place at Cliveden House in Berkshire – will be the “icing on the cake” for the couple, their son Eric, eight, and Lauren’s 16-year-old son Adam from her previous marriage. “It’s going to be one to remember, I’m sure Eric is super excited about it too,” he says. “It’s completely right and natural that they should be getting married. And they’ve been together a long time now so it’s about time!”
And in true David fashion, he adds with a cheeky grin, “I hope Simon doesn’t forget me in his will, though!”
A jack of all trades, David has conquered most areas of show business since starting out in the 1990s. He is half of the comedic genius behind Little Britain and Come Fly With Me. He’s penned more than 30 children’s books and even been compared to Roald Dahl. But none of his professional achievements compare to the most rewarding job in his life, being dad to nine-year-old Alfred.
