It seemed bridges were slowly being built between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the royal family in recent weeks. But with the release of Omid Scobie’s scathing new book, Endgame, have these bridges been well and truly burnt?
Scobie has made a string of bombshell allegations in the book, including that Prince William made attempts to upstage his father King Charles, and that the Princess of Wales is “cold” and ignored Meghan’s “cries for help”. He also claims the King referred to Harry as “that fool” after the release of his Netflix documentary.
It comes just weeks after Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, called the King to wish him a happy 75th birthday, marking their first conversation in six months. He reportedly received a video message from his grandchildren, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, as well. More recently, it was even rumoured Harry and Meghan would be open to an invite to Christmas at Sandringham Palace if it was offered. But royal expert Duncan Larcombe claims the book has ruined the chance of a reconciliation.
“It has put them right back to square one,” he tells new. “There’s now pressure being put on Harry to come out and distance himself from the book, and I think that will be very tempting for him to do because it seems he has been trying to soften his tone towards the royals.
