Wedding Plans

There’s not long to go now until the long-awaited Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but there are numerous wedding planning details that we’re still left in the dark about. Here’s what we know so far…

In early February Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they would mark their wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle by taking a carriage procession through the streets of Windsor. After marrying at noon they will then go out to greet the cheering crowds.

The bride and groom will leave the castle at 1pm immediately after the ceremony via Castle Hill and travel along the High Street, Sheet Street, Kings Road and Albert Road before returning to the castle via the Long Walk.

Thousands are expected to line the streets of Windsor to see the carriage procession, which will be similar to the tour of the town that the Queen made on her 90th birthday.

Following their carriage procession, Kensington Palace revealed, they will join their guests at a reception in St George’s Hall inside the castle. Then later in the evening there will be a second reception for close family and friends hosted by Prince Charles.

It was also announced that the Dean of Windsor, the Rt Rev David Conner, would be conducting the service.

Their guests will gather in St George’s Hall in the upper part of the castle and they will be joined by the newlyweds when they return from their carriage procession.

The Kensington Palace statement said: “Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle are hugely grateful for the many good wishes they have received since announcing their engagement.

“They are very much looking forward to the day and to being able to share their celebrations with the public.”

The noon wedding and afternoon and evening receptions still leave just about enough time in theory for the Duke of Cambridge, who is likely to be best man, to attend the FA Cup Final at Wembley in his role as President of the Football Association.
