WE HAVE TO ADMIT that, here at Maximum PC, we welcome products with the word ‘mini’ in their name. Whether that’s down to the quirky nature and sheer novelty value of diminutive devices, or whether it’s the prospect of small pieces of tech that take up little desktop real estate, we always have a soft spot for compact products. Just large enough to fit in the palm of your hand, Geekom’s Mini IT8 PC clearly fits into this bracket.
There are some decent specs on offer—the version we have on test is the top-of-the-line model, which provides larger storage capacity and increased RAM over the other models in the lineup. With plenty of creative potential for some unique setups, including as an unusual laptop replacement, the Mini IT8 should make an interesting machine.
Although the compact size is its most obvious characteristic, the machine is incredibly versatile. In the box, there’s a mounting kit that can be secured onto the back of a monitor, for example. If you’re after a minimal setup. The Geekom Mini IT8 could easily be mounted underneath a desk and hidden out of the way for a sleek look. As it isn’t visually groundbreaking, and certainly not a liquid-cooled show machine, it makes sense to hide it away.

AMD's turn to drop the ball?
WITH INTEL'S RAPTOR LAKE CPUs falling over, the company firing around 15,000 employees, and cancelling its 2024 innovation event, AMD must have been enjoying the view - until its new Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs rolled out. So, is AMD's CPU a minor stumble or game-changing fumble?
Intel issues fix for Raptor Lake degradation
EARLIER THIS YEAR, I wrote about difficulties I was having with a Core 19-13900K processor (see MPC230 Tech Talk). Little did we realize that we were only seeing the tip of the iceberg. While most complaints have involved the unlocked Core i9 Raptor Lake CPUs, it appears the instability problems build up and potentially impact many Raptor Lake-13th and 14th Gen Core CPUs, with Intel identifying 22 different desktop parts.
