Circle-Hooks Modernize Soft Plastics

Model Behavior

MANY FACTORS ARE INVOLVED in landing trophy game fish, but perhaps the most important component in facilitating the connection between angler and quarry is the hook. Though a vast selection of styles exists to suit various species and scenarios, the decision ultimately requires a choice between circle- and J-hooks.

Anglers in venues across the world have long relied on traditional J-hooks, but the emergence of circle-hooks has drastically changed the sport fishing landscape. While the prevailing purpose of circle-hooks remains conservation, anglers have come to learn that the benefits extend even further under certain circumstances. On the other hand, there are instances where the use of circle-hooks is ill advised and J-hooks are highly preferred to get the job done.

Conservation aside, circle-hooks produce the best possible results when fish take and turn on a bait or lure. Due to their inherent design where the hook point is turned perpendicular to the shank, circle-hooks don’t require the violent thrust of the rod tip typically associated with setting J-hooks. Instead, anglers are able to consistently achieve perfect corner hooksets by simply letting the fish eat, reeling tight and pointing the rod tip in the opposite direction of the fish’s travel.

A Whole Different Animal - Wild Cats that Got the Cream

MOST ANGLERS HAVE STRONG BELIEFS ABOUT WHAT HULL TYPE IS BEST. Running hard in rough water requires a seaworthy platform with the strength and stability to keep you safe, comfortable and dry. Among the different trends that have consequently become evident from the evolution of center consoles, boat builders are cornering a new niche of complex and competitive catamarans harnessing more outboard power than ever before. Breaking the barrier with innovative hull designs and deck layouts, the newest catamarans offer unobstructed fishability while providing increased fuel economy and speed per applied horsepower.

The Lotus Effect - Exploring The Science Of The Shine

THERE HAVE BEEN COUNTLESS TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATIONS inspired by the animal kingdom, with the science of emulating nature known as biomimetics. Evolution has perfected natural designs and environmental approaches over hundreds of millions of years, providing chemists, biologists and engineers with a perfect platform to advance modern materials and manufacturing processes. Learning the way of the lotus leaf has revealed remarkable self-cleaning properties resulting from the unique flora’s ultrahydrophobic surface architecture producing water droplets in nearly perfect spherical shape.

Underwater LEDs

MY CENTER CONSOLE WAS RECENTLY OUTFITTED with full spectrum color-changing underwater LEDs and I can’t wait to test them out. I’m aware of their ability to attract forage and predator species to the boat from dusk till dawn, but are high intensity LEDs effective at attracting life during the day? If so, what color shines brightest amid the natural light of the sun?
