Mt Alford challenge
Walking New Zealand|June 2017

Only four of the Tower Trampers headed off from Christchurch to Mt Alford. Two of us had not done this tramp before so we were certainly up for the challenge.

Mt Alford challenge

When we arrived it was easy to say let’s go back and go to a cafe in Methven as it was rather dreary weather, foggy and a slight drizzle.

We got organised and the drizzle stopped but fog remained.

It is beautiful beech forest to start off with and the trees are so incredibly black. The track had plenty of mud but not too bad because our boots did not sink too deep down.

We were keen to give it a go and get to the top and if the weather was too bad we could just turn back. We always make sure we have the right gear when we go out tramping.

We could not see across the Canterbury Plains but that was OK as we had to keep an eye on the track and watch our step. The beech forest was beautiful on its own.
