The home: A semi-detached property in Ballinteer, Co. Dublin Who lives here? Anna, Richard and their three children.

Contemporary Class

After eleven years in their home Anna and Richard felt their ground floor was no longer working to meet the needs of the family. When they considered all the options with their architect and friend, Eamonn Daly, they realised they had plenty of space to work with so made the decision to restructure the existing living area and create an open plan space.

Where there were originally three doors leading into the space they closed two off, built a large bay window and created space for a contemporary kitchen scheme.

Anna said: “We wanted to adapt the house to suit the changing needs of the family. Our children are aged three, seven and ten so we’d started to consider what it would be like when they were teenagers and wanted to create a space where we could all spend time together while still doing our own thing.

“We love the house and intend to be here for a long time so it was just a matter of making better use of what we had.”
