When choosing a material for your work surface, the best way to start is with a reality check. Think about how you use your kitchen and what you most enjoy about it. Then explore which materials will enable you to keep on doing that, and how they’ll respond to heat, water and other common kitchen occurrences. Also check if they’ll scratch or mark, how best to clean them and what maintenance is needed. Ask if you can’t find the answers you need, and always order samples before you buy.
