THE FIFTY FATHOMS IS, bar very few, the ultimate professional diver's watch. Historically, it has been the watch of choice for those who work in the murkiest depths, steadily keeping time in delicate, high-risk situations. It was famously commissioned for French Navy combat divers in 1952, and released to civilians the following year.
It was a dive watch made by a diver. The force behind its innovation was Blancpain's then-CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter, himself a diver looking to introduce a watch to meet a growing need among professional and amateur divers.
