An Ode to the Extraordinary

On World Photography Day, HP Indigo introduced India to four extraordinary image-makers who have helped society with their work.

Photography is dear to us all. Amongst the arts, it holds a special place for its simple ability to tell stories. Over the years, the narratives— both personal and of the world at large—have benefitted our society. However, we often forget or overlook those who make a difference to society, to our environment and the spirit of the planet.

So, on this World Photography Day on the 19th of August, HP Indigo, launched Herography, a concept that aims to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary among the ordinary, especially amongst photographers. The four chosen photographers whose efforts were honoured by HP Indigo were Harsheen Jammu, Kedar Bhide, Rajen Nair, and Mohit Ahuja. Each of them has helped society and brought positive changes through their art.

The session began with an introduction by K Madhavan Pillai, Chief Editor of Better Photography, followed by Mr Ashok Pahwa, Commercial Business Manager, HP Indigo Digital Presses, India, who reiterated HP Indigo’s support for the artists’ noble cause. Each hero was asked to share their journey, the challenges, and how they overcame them. At the end of the talk, Mr. Pahwa presented a customised certificate with a distinctive quote engraved on it to each hero. The session came to an end with an insightful round of Q&A between the audience and the photographers. Harsheen Jammu, an IIM Graduate, co-founded Ombre with her husband in 2016. A finalist at the Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year Awards in 2019, she is an inspiration to other women to take up wedding photography as a career choice.
