We find out from this business owner why balance and harmony are equally important in her work life as they are in the home.
When VISHA NELSON, founder of The Cinnamon Room, left her job working as a capital markets lawyer, there was little regret. “It didn’t give me a decent balance in my life,” she says. “I was so consumed with work and stressed all the time, I felt little peace or clarity within, which was very disempowering because it made me feel disconnected to myself.”
While she admits that she was never passionate about being a lawyer – “I did it because I could rather than because I loved law” – one thing she does feel real passion for is her home décor business. Rather than it feeling like work, it’s something that inspires her on an ongoing basis. “My family is hugely important to me and my kids take priority over anything else, so I feel my chosen career path of running my own business, although it certainly has its challenges, enables me the flexibility to work around my priorities of looking after my family and myself.”
