Often referred to as the city of freedom, Berlin, Germany, is not just known for its popular wall. Vasenta Selvanayagam shares the things she saw and did in this beautiful city, and how Scoot airlines made her journey there a breeze.
Let’s just say that when people around me found out that I was going to Europe for the first time and that I’d be spending two weeks in Berlin, they thought that I was crazy and told me that it was a waste of money. Personally, the reason I was excited to go there was
simple. The vibe that I got from Google’s images told me that this city had a lot to offer and it was the ideal place to make my dream of taking a solo trip before I turned 30 come true. In a nutshell, it was 100 per cent worth it and I have no regrets at all!
Coincidently, Scoot introduced its new route to Berlin back in June and after looking up the prices, it was comparatively affordable as the price of a round-trip journey was only S$349 (about RM1,050) for an economy class seat and S$919 (about RM2,800) on ScootBiz. Just like other budget airlines, this only covered the flight and everything else such as meals, WiFi and charging docks had to be paid for separately.
But even with just the basics, I found the flight comfortable. The legroom was wide enough for me to stretch out and the seats were rather soft too. In total, the journey to Berlin from Singapore took slightly over 12 hours in addition to the two-hour layover and one-hour flight that we had to take fom Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
If there’s anything that I’m thankful for, it has to be that jetlag has never been an issue for me. Upon arriving at Tegel Airport, my first stop was at Capri by Fraser Berlin to freshen up. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the design of this hotel is a combination of a museum and a church.
