I OWN A HARLEY DAVIDSON SOF TAIL SLIM, AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS ‘ WARHORSE’ , and she makes me happy. We are one, even on untarred mountain passes. I have no intention of selling or replacing her – why would I? Except, perhaps, for this Bavarian from Berlin before me, sparkling in the morning sun.
But please don’t tell my beloved Warhorse she may have some serious competition, in the form of ten, brand-new BMW R18 cruisers in a perfect line.
Nine guys and I take our seats, then off we ride. The boxer engines shake to the left and right, making it clear you can’t mess with them. The R18 offers three driving modes: Roll, Rock, and Rain – I choose Rock. Not only does it sound fun; it’s also the most responsive and dynamic setting – and we’re going for a test ride, are we not?
