MAKING ME TIME
Hertfordshire Life|January 2020
It’s one of the most popular new year’s resolutions - to get back some ‘me time’. But how do we do it, when things are always so hectic? The simple things can really help

MAKING ME TIME

When we were kids, we didn’t need much convincing to rush outside at a moment’s notice to begin our next adventure. But adult life brings many responsibilities and we often feel like we can’t give ourselves the time to kick back, explore, play, and dare we say, go on an adventure.

It really doesn’t have to be this way though. You just need to tap into that mindset of the endless summer, of the lazy Sunday, to recapture some of that youthful magic. In this modern world of technology, sometimes the best way to grab some stress-free me time is to temporarily escape from it, summon a little wanderlust, explore the great outdoors and reacquaint yourself with the charms of nature. So as you look ahead to 2020, perhaps think about simplifying things.

GO CAMPING

Being at home can often end up in doing chores, surfing the web or watching TV. It’s not that any of these things are bad, but they are known to distract from relaxation. Camping is an excellent remedy. Recruit friends or family for a night or two – or head off in solitude for some thinking space. Without the distractions of home and technology, time goes out the window, making it much easier to reconnect with your loved ones, nature and yourself.

Sure, you’ll have a few minor challenges like pitching your tent or hammock, building a fire and cooking-up some campfire grub, but that’s all part of the charm. Take a Frisbee, a book, or whatever fun activity you’ve been neglecting for too long.

Or, if the idea of a tent and sleeping bag is not too appealing, why not go glamping and have the best of both worlds?
