When it comes to holidays, there’s a lot to explore right here in our own backyard. Here are some recommendations for an unforgettable vacation (or staycation) throughout our country, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2020

Go Local, From Coast To Coast

In the first three quarters of 2019, Malaysia welcomed 20.1 million international visitors. The numbers don’t lie; Malaysia is still a destination of choice for foreign vacationers who can’t get enough of our unique, multicultural state and its abundance of natural blessings from Mother Nature. In that regard, why shouldn’t we as Malaysians enjoy the things our country has to offer— as well as its ever-growing tourism infrastructure—to its absolute fullest? We asked our editors and friends of the Tatler community to recommend some of their best travel experiences in our country, all the way from northern Perlis to southern Johor and across the South China Sea to the beautiful shores of Borneo—Sabah and Sarawak.

Where to stay

The Datai Langkawi, Kedah

With the forest at your doorstep, the 25-year-old Datai Langkawi recently underwent a complete makeover of its guestrooms and public spaces. The facelift hasn’t diluted its charm as a utopia of relaxation and solitude. Book The Datai Estate Villa, a new, luxurious addition to the resort. This villa is designed by Didier Lefort and boasts five bedrooms, two connecting pools and a gym. Anyone who loves flora and fauna would definitely enjoy The Datai, as you will be enveloped by the forest, and be able to see as well as hear nature at its finest.
