They dominated this tie until they had Ruben Vinagre sent off and then when referee Anthony Taylor evened things up with a shock red for Swansea’s Leroy Fer, they got on top again.

Newboy Rafa Mir, a £1.5m signing from Valencia this week, made his debut as a 77thminute substitute and almost tore the Swans apart.

In his first 13 minutes in English football lanky Mir had a drive deflected, a header saved and went close with another header that was flagged offside.

Carlos Carvalhal criticised Taylor for sending off Fer, but the truth is the Swansea boss was lucky to get a replay in his third game in charge.

“Don’t ask me about the first sending off because I did not see it,” said Carvalhal. “But the second was a classic yellow card, not a red card.
