REFEREE Scott Simpson played a central role in Stourbridge’s success after he reduced Alfreton to nine men by the 24th minute.
The EVO-STIK NPL Premier club enjoy a love affair with the FA Cup, having reached the third round last season and second round in two of the three seasons before that.
Simpson gave Alfreton defender Tom Allan his marching orders after 19 minutes for pulling back Stourbridge striker Jordan Archer when through on goal.
Five minutes later, Alfreton full-back Bradley Wood also saw red when he was adjudged to have tripped wing wizard Matt Dodd when in full flow.
Stourbridge then added insult to injury when Tom Tonks scored with a direct shot from the resulting free-kick on 26 minutes to leave Alfreton with a mountain to climb to win.
