Free ration plan extension to cost Centre ₹44,762cr more
The central government on Wednesday announced the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for three more months. This is the eighth phase of the scheme to provide 5kg of free foodgrains to nearly 80 crore beneficiaries every month since the first wave of Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. With the latest extension, the identified beneficiaries will now get free foodgrain for 28 months.
