Violence Probe Net Widens

After the JNU tapes unmasked ABVP activist Awasthi’s role in the campus violence, cops ask him to join probe

After an India Today TV’s sting operation unmasked ABVP activist Akshat Awasthi’s involvement in the January 5 JNU violence, Delhi Police has asked him to join the probe.

Awasthi was asked to join the probe with Rohit Shah, another person who was caught in the sting.

Meanwhile, police interrogated a warden, 13 security guards and five students in connection with the violence at JNU. Seven more people from WhatsApp group ‘Unity Against Left’ have been identified.

The Crime Branch had called Awasthi twice to come to its Kamla Market office in order to join the probe along with Rohit Shah. Awasthi had assured the crime branch that he would join probe but he did not go to crime branch office and switched off his phone.

Crime Branch sources say that he may join the investigation on Monday. However, if he does not come, the agency will serve notices to both Awasthi and Shah.
