In what will only be Virat Kohli’s second major overseas adventure as captain of the Indian Test team, the Test series in the Caribbean promises intrigue not so much for the quality of the opposition as much as for young India’s ability to counter alien conditions they have not been privy to much in the recent past.

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly on a golden streak. Notwithstanding his purple patch as a batsman par excellence, he has proven to be an enigmatic, enticing young captain to watch in contemporary world cricket and not limited to any one format either. As part of the extension of that resplendent, rich vein of personal and leadership form, Kohli is now all set to take that exuberance to the furthest shores of the cricket crazy Caribbean islands as he leads the Indian team for the first time in a four Test series against the West Indies on a tour that will last close to two months, a significant time away from home.

 

India have been home since the commencement of the ICC World Twenty 20 2016 and through the long duration of the Indian Premier League season 9 and it will be interesting to see how they handle this passage of play before touching base at home once more where sterner tests await  pun intended. This time apart will be as much a test of their skills as well of their endurance and attrition rate in what promises to be a rather lengthy season ahead for the Indian cricket team with as many as seventeen Test scheduled in a rare Test heavy season for the Indian team ranked second in the ICC Test rankings as they face off against the eighth ranked team in the world.
