Most pensioners settle down to a life of leisure and relaxation. But Gwyn Haslock, from Cornwall, is not your run-of-the-mill pensioner. The UK’s first female surf champion hasn’t let go of her passion despite her advancing years.
Gwyn is waiting at the entrance to her bungalow.
She is dressed in a woolly hat and a snug, waterproof jacket. With her surfboard secured to her Peugeot 108, she is off to Newquay. She surfs regularly – age is not a restraint for Gwyn. “If it’s something you love, it doesn’t matter what age you are. Whether you are 9, 10 or 70, just do it. And do it within your limitations.’ Gwyn smiles.
