By her own admission, Lorraine Kelly is one of the most upbeat people on television, admitting ‘I’m a glass-half-full kind of person!’
Despite the fact she’s woken up every weekday at 4.45 am to present her show, Lorraine insists the Good Morning Britain crew have it harder.
‘Susanna and Piers get up in the real wee small hours, and when I first moved to London and did the six or seven news hour, you’d have to get in at four, so I’d be getting up at three. Now that really was early!’
She adds, ‘I remember getting a taxi in Camden because there was no public transport, and you’d see people falling out of nightclubs. It was a bit soul-destroying!’
During her 35 years on ITV, the bubbly Scottish presenter has the enviable reputation of putting hundreds of guests at ease on her sofa over the years.
‘It’s almost like you’re inviting them into your house,’ she says. ‘I very much enjoy what I do, that feeling when I’m actually on air, it’s just great fun. I’ve been doing it for so long that I don’t find it nerve-racking. Nothing really throws me.’
But one thing that did trip up Lorraine was the menopause, as her famously sunny disposition seemed to disappear, and overnight she says she became miserable.
