1 First impressions
Use colour to create a calm atmosphere the moment you step inside. Stick to earthy tones of blue, green and sandy beige. Try painting the woodwork and back of the door first to see how the colours work in your hall from day to night.
2 Mirror, mirror
Create the illusion of space with an oversized mirror to help bounce light around a dark and small entrance. Opt for a panelled style to give the impression of an extra window.
3 Open plan
When your hallway is part of your front room, it’s important to define the two different areas with some carefully chosen furniture. Keep styles simple and minimal, choose a coat stand to fill a corner and a short bench for changing shoes.
