Jennifer Lopez shocked fans – and the showbiz industry – when she spoke out in defence of boyfriend Ben Affleck after he was slammed for seemingly shading his ex-wife Jennifer Garner by revealing he felt “trapped” in his marriage and it was “part of why” he started drinking.

“I couldn’t have more respect for Ben as a father, a co-parent and a person,” she said in a statement supporting the actor, who admits he came off as “the worst, most insensitive, stupid, awful guy” after his remarks about the Yes Day actress, with whom she shares daughters Violet, 16, and Seraphina, 12, and son Samuel, nine.

“Most of the industry expected J.Lo to be absolutely furious about Ben’s quite frankly sexist comments about his wife and the mother of his children, so when she came out being fully supportive and respectful, a few people close to her buried their heads in their hands,” says an insider.
