A Night at the Lipstick House

The irreverent, fantastical world of Toiletpaper magazine can now be experienced as it opened the doors to its new rentable apartment in Milan.

Vrinda Ferrari opens the red front door of Toiletpaper’s office—widely known in Milan as the “Lipstick House”, courtesy of a sprawling mural of hands holding lipsticks on its façade—with a packet of pastries in her hand, and a beaming smile: “Down the street is the best pastry shop in the Città Studi neighbourhood. My five-year-old daughter, India, always wants us to stop there,” she explains as she offers the sweets and an espresso. We are in via Balzaretti 4—a ten-minute walk from the famed Bar Basso—where murals of a tangle of trumpets, trombones, and bouquets of flowers cover the façades of the buildings that stand next to the Toiletpaper headquarters, the irreverent magazine founded over 10 years ago by Maurizio Cattelan, the celebrated Italian contemporary artist, and well-known photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari, who has spent his decades-long career working for leading fashion and design brands.
