How did your entrepreneurial journey begin?

NJ: My entrepreneurial journey officially began in 2020 just after I finished my graduation from Northeastern University in the US. However, my inclination toward the family business started taking shape somewhere during my childhood, as I listened to my father, my uncle, and grandfather recalling how they started the business, the challenges they had to face, and the strategies they adopted to tackle them. I was fascinated by their stories, and while I knew it was never going to be easy, I was sure this is what I wanted to get into. It was going to be challenging, but I was ready to take the legacy of my family's export business forward and ensure we built a successful retail brand.

When I joined the business in full force during the first lockdown in India, Javi Home didn't have a solid foundation in digital marketing. I realized that we needed to up our game and ensure we had a digital presence - that was my first course of action. Within a few months, we planned and arranged a virtual exhibition to meet and greet our buyers as we couldn't do it physically. After receiving a great response, we then went on to host another virtual exhibition in a few months.

However, at the back of my mind, I always wanted to create a global brand with roots in India. I vividly remember looking at different home stores in Boston and making a promise to myself that one day I would have a Javi Home store in Boston. In the pursuit of that promise I had made to myself, I decided to helm the retail segment of Javi Home.

How did your formal education help take your plans forward?
