I’m heading for the hills near Modena, Italy, in a screaming yellow Lamborghini Jalpa, chassis No. 419, the final one built and bearing Ferruccio Lamborghini’s fading signature on its blue leather dash. I’m squirming around to get comfortable— Lambos are not built for short people, and the tiny offset pedal box means I have to sit diagonally—when a silver Volvo SUV blows past me and the maroon Lambo Urus I’m following.
“Passed by a Volvo,” I say to Massimo Delbo, automotive historian and my co-pilot for the day. “I have an excuse, but those guys in the Urus should be ashamed.” Delbo picks up his walkie-talkie and repeats my snark in Italian to the occupants of the super SUV. A static-crackled reply comes back, and as Delbo translates it—“If he wants a roller coaster ride, I’ll give him one”—the Urus takes off with a gray puff of exhaust. I smile at Delbo, he grins at me, and I drop the Jalpa down to second gear to give chase.
Paging through various Lamborghini books, you won’t find much about the Jalpa. Regarded as antipasti to the Countach’s secondi, it’s usually lumped in with less loved Lambos like the Jarama and the Silhouette, if it’s mentioned at all. We’re guilty, too; MotorTrend hasn’t written about the Jalpa since late 1982.

2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty
The heavy-duty truck world moves more slowly than other pickup classes, and progress comes in spurts. Take the Ford F-Series Super Duty, whose recent refresh included softer-edged styling, a new entry-level gas-fed V-8, a new high-output 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8, and myriad small improvements like new bedside steps. Is it still basically the same truck as before? Absolutely, but it’s also a better Super Duty, however incrementally.

YOUR ICON OF ICONS: CHEVROLET CORVETTE
Was there ever any doubt? MotorTrend readers are largely American, and as much as we love Jeeps, Mustangs, and F-150s in this country, the Corvette has been “America’s sports car” for nearly as long as this publication has existed. That’s why you chose it via our online vote as the most iconic car of the past 75 years.
