December 2023 - January 2024
|GLAMOUR South Africa
This year brought with it many challenges within the fashion industry here's a roundup of some of the most significant developments.
1 MDINGI MOVING UP
Designer Lukhanyo Mdingi is named as the Amiri Prize winner for 2023. The Amiri Prize was launched in 2021 by L.A. based designer Mike Amiri to foster greater inclusivity as well as shine a spotlight on up and coming designers.
This win solidifies South African designers' place in the world of international fashion.
2 THE DAWN OF DE SARNO
Gucci announced that Allessandro Michele would be leaving after seven years at the helm and has appointed Sabato de Sarno as the new creative Director. This relative unknown to the outside public is well known to the inner fashion circle. He was Fashion Director at the House of Valentino for 13 years and his much anticipated debut show was held this past September to mixed reviews.

Animal print has prowled its way back into beauty and this time it's more wearable than ever. While the concept has always been a fashion favourite, its recent resurgence feels rooted in the maximalist nostalgia of the early 2000s when bold patterns and statement beauty looks ruled the years.
