Anything that's new will always grab your attention. Especially food, so be it waffles or the latest momos craze. And the fact that a majority of influencers have been seen sporting a variety of smoothies every morning, will definitely leave an impact on the mass population.

Some have it to lose weight and skip breakfast, some have it due to time restraints or some simply believe it's super healthy because a certain someone said so! 

Well, it is obviously a given fact that a glass of smoothie is quick, fast & east to grab option, but is it really as healthy as people make it sound?

Continue reading to find out why we as nutritionist aren't great supporters of smoothies!

1) Incomplete Meal- If you are trying to lose weight with this trendy smoothie diet, you may be lacking in the protein department here. Most if these smoothies only use fruits & vegetables (i.e Carbs &Fiber). A handful of nuts or a tbsp of nut butter is sometimes added as a pseudo source of protein, but you don't realise that they give you only 24gms of second-class protein (which is barely anything for Breakfast- even for a kid!)

 2) Loses the benefit of a Fruit-The primary benefit of fruits are its vitamin and mineral content. You can only achieve maximum absorption of these when you have them as a stand-alone, in between your big meals and by chewing them thoroughly. Blending or adding it to your breakfast will reduce their absorption rate as stated in many researches.
