Recently, an emerging concern known as virtual autism or digital autism has gained significant attention in children, linked to excessive screen time, potentially hindering their social, emotional and cognitive development.

In the past, children spent more time in outdoor activities and playtime with peers which fostered socialization and face to face communication.

Unlikely, today's screen dominated culture has led to a significant shift in children's behavior.

• Cause of virtual autism

1.Excessive exposure and addiction to Television, phone and electronic gadgets in toddler period 2. Social isolation-No face-to-face interaction with child 3. Lack of outdoor activities and physical activities 4. Overuse of phones by parents, caregivers 5. Using phone as pacifier to baby's tantrum 6. Neglectful behavior towards child by parents

Symptoms of virtual autism

• Poor eye contact

Doesn't recognize parents or family Doesn't mingle with other children

• Likes to play alone Doesn't respond to name call

• Speech delay
