Pretty Paper Chain

Dress up the mantel, tree or staircase with a twist of patterned paper. Choose unexpected designs and color combos for an eclectic holiday vibe.

1. From any sort of paper (wallpaper, craft paper, tissue paper or wrapping paper will do), cut 3" by 6" or 3" by 4.5" strips. Using loops of different sizes will add personality.

2. Cut enough strips to make your garland the desired length. (Don’t worry if you estimate wrong initially; you can always cut more!)

3. Staple the ends of each strip together to create a circle.

4. Thread the next strip into the loop you just created and staple the ends together.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you’re pleased with the garland’s length. Hang on the mantel, over the fireplace or anywhere you wish.

Tinsel Time

Vintage meets modern with this simple yet celebratory approach. Deck out a lush green wreath with silver tinsel strands for a little sparkle.

1. Gather a wreath and tinsel for decorating. (Use a light touch when handling tinsel to prevent tangling or clumping.)

2. Carefully layer the tinsel on the wreath, wrapping any extra around a piece of cardboard secured with a ribbon or string.

3.Once you’re finished decorating the wreath, hang it for display, being sure it is out of reach of pets and small children.
