It’s all the rage now. Plunging your topless body into a freezing tub of ice water—usually below 10 degrees Celsius—for a few minutes at a time in an attempt to gain mental clarity, improve your immunity, and solve world hunger. Ok, the last one might be a stretch, but everything else remains true. The science, while not yet definite, points to regular cold plunges having long-term benefits to your physical and mental health. It’s also a great way to wake up.
I don’t have a cold plunge at home, but I do enjoy my weekly dunks. I also highly recommend everyone to incorporate them into your schedule. My wife will be the first to tell you that I’m not a fan of massages. Staying still for 60 to 90 minutes at a time while a stranger kneads your muscles makes me feel like I’m wasting my time that could have been better used in the gym or out with friends. Cold plunges provide similar benefits, but at a far quicker period. My word for 2025 is optimisation, and this is an optimised activity.
If you’re looking for a place to start—and reset, I recommend Hideaway at New Bahru. Founder Grant Wee is a strong believer in wellness and has designed a fantastic experience around cold plunges. You start with an infrared sauna, then jump into the bathtub, and repeat this multiple times to experience maximum benefits.
It’s the best way to reset after a long week. Or year.
Hideaway is at New Bahru, 46 Kim Yam Road, 05-07.
