AS SOMEONE BORN to a middle-class Singaporean family, my first understanding of the concept of love outside of my family, is my love for football. I learnt to read and write the same time I was learning to dribble and pass. I got the hang of cursive writing at the same time I learnt to curl a ball with the outside of the foot. My first great joy was Singapore winning the Malaysian Cup and Malaysian League double in 1994. My first great heartbreak was when England got knocked out of Euro 96. I adored Fandi Ahmad before I could even begin to revere the likes of Mahatma Gandhi or Nelson Mandela. And I’m not alone. Around 40 per cent of Singaporeans believe football is influential to the nation’s culture and identity.
Starhub recognises this and understands the unifying power of the shared experiences and connection that sports, especially football, can bring. They have introduced the Starhub Sports+ pass, which has something for sports fans of all colours with its comprehensive lineup, which includes everything from the Premier League, the US Open, the English FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League and even a good dose of NBA action. To maximise interactivity, it allows watching on multiple devices and screens, which will be great for the real-time match statistics and interactive replays that the pass provides as part of a hybrid platform.
It’s why media is so important to us. StarHub provides a platform to celebrate the nation’s football culture and unite fans through their shared passion for the beautiful game—whether they’re in it for the action, for the data, or for the sense of community it fosters. To find out more about their efforts, I speak to Starhub’s chief of consumer business, Johan Buse.
So what exactly does a chief of consumer business do?
