Meat up for high spirits

Hong Kong Central is a culinary playground where roasted meat reigns supreme. For those with only a few short days to spend in the city, narrowing down the incredible options available can be difficult.

Central, in particular, is home to some of the Hong Kong's most iconic and long-standing eateries, such as Joy Hing, which have mastered traditional roasting techniques over centuries.

These establishments are dedicated to time-honoured practices like charcoal roasting, delivering authentic flavours that are deeply rooted in Cantonese culture.

If you have only two days in Hong Kong to embark on a meaty and spirited food trail, here is a short and satisfying line-up of slow-roasted, flame-grilled, and wok-tossed creations that celebrate flavour and craft.

Lunch: Tin Lung Goose

Just a short walk away is Tin Lung Goose, an eatery that opened in April 2023. It might seem fresh in the heart of Hong Kong’s culinary epicentre, but its roots run deep. The chef-owner brings a wealth of expertise to the table, having previously led the barbecue meats (siew mei) department at the renowned Tin Lung Heen in Ritz Carlton.

imageTin Lung Goose offers set lunches that come complete with vegetables, a side dish, rice, and a daily boiled soup – a comforting touch reminiscent of traditional Cantonese home cooking. The menu also allows diners to customise their meals, mixing and matching different meats to accompany the rice, ensuring something to please every palate.
