JOY SMITHERS - 'My life after ALL SAINTS'

During her time on All Saints, Joy Smithers copped a lot of abuse for the way her devious character, Rose, ruined Mitch and Terri’s love story. And although the actress has accomplished so much since her days of being in a love triangle with Erik Thomson and Georgie Parker, the experience still rattles her. In fact, Joy is extremely stoked that hardly anyone recognises her these days!

“People thought [Rose] was a total b---h, and she was, and I guess they thought that was me,” Joy tells us, before adding with a laugh, “These days younger people have no idea who I am and that’s absolutely fine with me!”

New Idea is catching up with Joy, 59, in her new showroom in Sydney’s Alexandria. She is opening the first retail outlet for her ceramics brand, Batch, and the space, Joy tells us, is where she is most content.

“I started making ceramics when I was 13,” Joy says. “People who know me well know this has always been my happy place. I fell into modelling and acting accidentally really. My sister Sue was already an international model and she introduced me to the industry.”
