That was the idea behind Frederic Boucheron's creation of the Point d'Interrogation, or Question Mark necklace. Back in 1879, when well-heeled women were typically encumbered by layers of garments and accessories, this was a novel concept.
This year, the house honours this high-jewellery icon with new interpretations. The reversible Goutte Question Mark necklace features rubellites, tanzanites or green tourmalines on one side, and rock crystal paved with diamonds on the reverse side. Each of these necklaces features 10 coloured gemstones - nine in sugar-loaf cuts and one in a pear cut.
A new campaign also highlights recent iterations of archival Question Mark necklaces, with botanical-themed creations abundantly represented. There are pieces inspired by twining ivy, a peacock feather and a laurel motif. And then, standing out with its minimalism, the Question Mark Eternity is a diamond-paved, white gold creation on which hangs a 12-carat Ceylon sapphire.
