JIMMY RISES TO CHALLENGE OF STEERING COLLS CHARGE

JIMMY Williams admits he's got 'big boots to fill' at Pontefract Collieries but he's relishing the chance to lead his local side to success.

The 36-year-old was assistant to Craig Rouse as Colls reached the NPL East play-offs last season, finishing fourth before bowing out at third-placed Dunston UTS in the semi-finals.

However, Pontefract then suffered the departure of Rouse, who decided to take the reins at divisional rivals Cleethorpes Town. It left the door open for Williams to step into the hotseat if he decided not to follow Rouse to the Owls.

"It did take some thinking about when the opportunity came up," Williams told The NLP. "I didn't dive into it, I took a few days to weigh things up. There were a lot of things that needed to be right and I spoke to people in the game, including Craig.
