Nicola Walker says she was delighted to return to hit drama The Split but the emotional plot reduced her to tears.
The two-part Christmas special comes two years after the show's third and final series, as family lawyer Hannah Stern, played by Walker, and her family gather in Spain for a wedding.
Nicola, 54, says even her son welled up when she read him the script, adding: "There are a couple of scenes towards the end and I was an absolute wreck.
"I was a mess in my kitchen, wiping tears away and my grown-up teenage son came in and went what's wrong with you?
"And I read him one of the speeches from the end and he did that thing that an 18year-old does where a tear has got fat in his eyes and he was pushing them up and he said I'm going.
"And that's it the script can hit a 54-year-old and an 18-year-old."
In The Split: Barcelona, Hannah and her husband Nathan (Stephen Mangan) attend daughter Liv's beach wedding in Catalonia's wine region.
Nicola says she had no reservations about rejoining the cast of the legal series, which returns on Sunday and Monday.
She adds: "We all really, really love each other.
