INTERIM chief executive Derek Weir has shot down suggestions Motherwell are skint and insists boss Stuart Kettlewell will be backed in this month's transfer window.

The outgoing chief addressed fan concerns and admitted the Fir Park club are looking for new investment to provide long-term security alongside majority shareholders, the Well Society.

A new CEO is expected to be on board by March with the interim one and chairman Jim McMahon departing. However, Weir is adamant the Steelmen are in solid shape.

Weir said: "Is the club in financial difficulty? Absolutely not.

"We have cash in the bank. Other than the long-term government Covid loan, that is the only debt the club have. Everything else is paid and up to date.

"We are getting through the cash we have but if you look at any business, they have the ability to put money in.
