Mordaunt intervention on defence adds to Westminster Tory tensions

COMMONS Leader Penny Mordaunt was at the centre of controversy today after stressing "our first duty is to protect our nation" following a meeting with the Chancellor.
Jeremy Hunt is coming under pressure to boost defence spending, given Vladimir Putin's Ukraine war and other global threats, but there are reports that he has found no new money to do so now.
With just days to go before the Budget next Wednesday, Portsmouth North MP Ms Mordaunt tweeted yesterday: "Met with the Chancellor to reiterate what Portsmouth's families and businesses need to hear in the Budget.
