AI cameras set to detect A386 traffic offences

SEATBELT AND MOBILE PHONE USERS BEWARE
NEW artificial intelligence traffic cameras will monitor a busy Plymouth road to detect "highly dangerous" road traffic offences.
Cameras that use artificial intelligence (AI) are being deployed on Tavistock Road, in the Derriford area, to help protect road users in the area from seatbelt and mobile phone offences.
The Acusensus system captures images of passing vehicles to identify whether or not passengers are wearing seatbelts and whether the driver is using a mobile phone at the wheel.
The cameras use AI to detect potential offences, and images are subsequently reviewed by a human.
If an offence has been correctly identified, the driver will either be sent a warning letter or a notice of intended prosecution, depending on the severity.
